Contraceptive/Pill Check
To provide the contraceptive pill safely we are required to complete an annual contraception check with you, which should include a blood pressure reading, weight and height as well as some other questions. As the blood pressure reading can be taken on a home monitor, you can submit your reading to us together with the questionnaire we will ask you to complete. It is vital you do this to prevent any disruption to your prescription being issued. If, once the questionnaire has been reviewed by a GP, they feel they need to see you, you will be contacted.
If you are on a repeat oral contraception, a contraceptive patch or Sayana Press, you will be invited to complete your annual contraception questionnaire in the month of your birth, meaning you will always know when to expect your invite but also helps the practice manage demand on the surgery. If you are invited but no longer take the medication regularly, please contact the surgery to make us aware and we will update your medical record. If you do not own a home blood pressure monitor, you are welcome to visit the Evergreen Oak reception and use our blood pressure monitor in reception.
Please see a member of our reception team and ask for a token, and guidance, if required, to use the machine. If you are having any problems with your medication or would like to consider alternative contraception options, please speak to reception who will arrange an appointment with the appropriate nurse or GP.
A full range of contraceptive services are offered at the surgery, these include:
- Coil fitting
- Nexaplanon fitting (implant)
- Oral contraception - we also carry out annual reviews for all patients who have a repeat prescription for an oral contraceptive, a contraceptive patch or the self administered Sayana Press
- Depo injection (including the Sayana Press, which is designed to allow patients to self-administer subcutaneously at home at intervals of 13 weeks (+/-1) with an annual clinic review)
